The Akawa People of Peru

Written By Eddie Duke

Our memory verse is Matthew 1:23 –

“See, the Virgin will become pregnant, And give birth to a son, And they will call Him Immanuel, which is translated, ‘God with us.’”

Today, would you pray for the Akawa people in Peru?  The Akawa are animists who live in fear of the spirits that inhabit the world around them. As animists, they tend to be pragmatic and go with what works as opposed to what may be right or wrong.

Their number is about 400 and according to missionary Joe Brewster

“They live far up an Amazonian tributary, just a step removed from the Stone Age.”

To get there is a two hour flight and then seven hour boat ride to where they are located.

Since 2018, Joe Brewster and Edwin Bianco have traveled to the Akawa four times a year.  With the help of the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, these two have helped fund the Akawa outreach by building up to 15 fish ponds which have sold nearly 10,000 pounds of fish.  As a result, numerous people have come to faith in Jesus and are close to having a church within the tribe.

Wow!  Christmas reminds us that Jesus came for all people…He came to be with us.   Pray about your gift to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.
