Our series for the month of February is “Lovin’ It”. Yesterday, we saw that love is a command. God tells us to walk in love.
I Corinthians 14:1 reads “Pursue love and desire spiritual gifts, and especially that you may prophesy.” The word ‘pursue’ is a word which means “go after”.
It implies a choice and love is that. Love is a choice. Love is not a feeling. It may spur feelings and emotions, but love really is something that you choose to do or not. We choose to love someone or not. We have a deeper understanding of love when we understand that it is more than a feeling.
Anyone remember Boston? I love that song – “More than a feeling”. Sorry, I digress.
At any rate, there have been many times that if I would have allowed my feelings to control or motivate my love, I am not sure it would have happened. I think of the times that I have gotten up with a sick child and can’t honestly say that I ever “felt” like doing that. Thankfully, my love for them was never based upon my feelings at the time. Love is a choice.
I am praying that a better understanding of love will enable us to live a life of “lovin it!”
