Hebrews 12:1-2 reads
“And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus…”
When I bike, I always start from the same location that I am going to end at – at our house. In my mind, I am focused on returning home the whole time I am biking. As the miles go by, I pass markers that I have come to know very well. When I take those final two lefts, I know that I am close. Everything I pass is a reminder that I am closer to finishing and I just need to stay focused on the goal of finishing.
The word for ‘endurance’ is a word which means a quality of character that does not allow you to quit.
Why don’t I quit when I am biking? Because everything is marked out for me. I know the territory and I know when I am getting a little closer to finishing. It’s easier to endure when you know the course is marked out for you.
Your life and my life is not an accident.
It is a life that has been marked out by God for His glory and for our benefit. With every landmark we pass, we get a little closer to the finish. Keep our eyes fixed on Jesus and realize with everything we pass, we are closer to finishing.
